Teacher Accused of Sexually Assaulting Special Needs Students

ABC13 Eyewitness News
February 1, 2005
Houston

A Texas City substitute school teacher is on suspension after he was accused of sexually assaulting two special needs students.

The parents of a six-year-old Down's syndrome girl say their child told them a Heights Elementary substitute teacher hurt her.

Attorney Tony Buzbee is representing another family that came forward, accusing the same substitute teacher of sexually assaulting their autistic child. He says his lawsuit is designed to make sure Texas City ISD reviews its school policies.

Texas City school officials refused to comment on the allegations. Both plaintiffs are asking for $25 million in damages.

The man only had to have a criminal background check to be hired and had not worked with children before. He is under suspension, but no charges have been filed yet.
