A Houston law firm is representing more than 1,400 Port Arthur residents who have joined a lawsuit stemming from the Eagle Otome collision on the Sabine Neches Waterway.
Buzbee Law Firm filed claims late Tuesday on behalf of 1,433 individuals who claim to have suffered personal injury or property damage after the 807-foot tanker Eagle Otome collided Jan. 23 with a barge being pushed by the tugboat Dixie Vengence.
The deadline to file lawsuits in connection with the collision was yesterday.
American Eagle Tankers, owner of the Eagle Otome, filed documents in a Beaumont federal court recently seeking to limit the amount the company might ultimately have to pay in damages to the combined value of the Singapore-flagged vessel and its cargo, according to a lawyer involved in the case.
Buzbee also filed a motion to dismiss the limitation proceeding, according to a press release from the law firm.
